I’m trying to build a werewolf costumeI’m trying to build a werewolf zentai costume this year complete with digitigrades stilts. What I would love to do is find a place that sells (or does custom commission work) a pair of latex werewolf legs to wear. I’m going more for the Underworld looking werewolf. But after scouring the internet I can’t find anywhere that looks like they do this kind of work.
I’ve wanted to make this as a standing prop for the longest, I bought this mask on ebay and it came without tags, no idea that made it but it’s huge. The paintjob looks great in person and I know I need to add more hair. I’ve been trying to puzzle out how to build the body convincingly, and after seeing Laurie Beasts life sized props I think I have a good idea on how to start. If you aren’t able to find them, or find someone to make them for you, you might want to check youtube for a video by a woman called, what is it, Kandee the Makeup Artist — she has one video that shows you how to take apart one of those pirate beards and put the facial hair on realistically using spirit gum, I think. It did look quite real and although it would probably be time consuming, you could probably do the same thing with your legs.
I have made the stilts before and attempted to do a werewolf costume, the mask came out horrid but the stilts were awesome. They let you crouch down and appear to be normal, however people will freak when you stand up. I got 7′ out of my stilts; I enjoyed them and recommend building you a pair. This was my first ever costume project so I wasn’t too worried on looks just functionality, I want to revisit the costume and reattempt it now and see how good I could do. They aren’t to bad if you use the side supports and rear tendon, they were a little tricky because I am not used to walking with my foot at an angle. I was able to wear them for 4 hours the night before at a party and danced in them, and wore them for 6 hours on Halloween night the next day. My legs wear fine, my knee was a little swollen from some antics that led to me falling off a porch in them. Just don’t fall in them and they are actually somewhat comfortable.

Dress up as Seth Green’s character “Kenny”Back in 1999 when I was 16 going on 17, I attempted to dress up as Seth Green’s character “Kenny” from the 1998 teen film “Can’t Hardly Wait” for Halloween. Needless to say, the costume came out looking like trash. I’d get a real kick out of it if here I am, eleven years later, in 2010, a fully grown 27-year old man to finally dress and look exactly like him. Granted, most people would just assume I was dressing as a wigga, but that’d be okay. I’ve pretty much decided unless I can look exactly like him, I probably won’t even bother with it. On another note, I know this is not the first thread I’ve started where I ran ideas I have for Halloween with you guys. I pretty much do this yearly where I’ll have all these ideas. I’m just lucky I was able to find this board where there are fellow Halloween lovers who understand. Who knows what I’ll end up being this year or doing, if anything.
In my neck of the woods that ‘Skater Gear’ died out in like 1995 so around here your best bet would be a Salvation Army. I wasn’t even aware Junco still made clothing. Anyways, what I would do it go to any “Urban” style clothing outlet. “Against All Odds” or “Urban Outfitters”. Something like that. Most “X-Games” athletes have clothing lines– you may be able to scout over them and see if you can find what you are looking for. You also might have luck in Flee Markets or Street Fairs— finding knock off clothing like that is pretty common near me however it might be regional.
Not sure if I am still going to do this for Halloween. I could do it for work maybe….heck….I may get some of this gear anyhow just to hang in. I’m eccentric enough to do that. Like show up to some club or something on a Friday night or just go to some big event and be dressed like that. I’ve also talked to some old high school friends about having our own little theater arts reunion at some point too and this would be a funny outfit up to show up in. It’s funny how as time goes by what was once cool to wear becomes a joke in later years. Remember that teenagers!
I could just get the goggles, the shirt and the jeans because all three of those exists. I may have to skip the jacket and shoes however because they may be hard to find and even if I can find something close to them, it may be pricy. I think all that other stuff would be close enough and fans of the movie would probably get the gag right away and laugh. The fact that I look nothing like Seth Green adds to the comedy. I’m like 6’4 and Seth Green is 5’4 and if I dressed like this, I’d just look like some tall, big, pushing 30 goof who can’t let go of his teen years.

How to build a Newspaper Man costumeI’ve tried using Fabri-Tac and rubber cement to bond newspaper to a trench coat. When the newspaper dried I tried putting on the trench coat and the paper ripped. I know newspaper is very stiff and not bendable so that was to be expected with just one layer of newspaper on the trench coat. I’m curious if anybody has any ideas besides using more layers of newspaper to prevent the newspaper from ripping? I was thinking of sealing it somehow with rubber cement on the exterior.
I think your best bet would be to cut the newspaper into strips or pieces and glue that down – but take care to have the seams of the paper edges on the fabric where it would naturally crease or flex. I definitely would use several layers of paper. I know how to sew, so if it was me, I’d get spandex suits pattern and use the pattern to cut out the newspaper and use duct tape on the insides to piece the pattern together – make the suit completely out of newspaper. Attaching it to existing clothing is going to be more difficult – the glue probably won’t hold as well, so I’d look into using duct tape at the seams (if you get gray or black you could also use the tape as a decorative detail on the outside to also reinforce the seams) And stay away from water and open flame!
My theory is that clothing is made up of many different sections of cut pieces of fabric, stitched together. If you cut out the newspaper (granted, several layers either glued/sandwiched together) according to a real clothing pattern and then used duct tape along the seam lines where you’d normally sew it together, then you are allowing the newspaper to move as it would if it were fabric a bit more than if you were just blanketing yourself with paper. It should allow the outfit to move a little better and not stress the seams as much. It would still tear if you were really active in the outfit.

Best looking Joker wigI’m a bald dude, nothing wrong with that, other than I’m thinking of doing the Joker for 2010 Halloween, what wig is best, looking and all,, and any tips? I’ve never worn a zentai suit before. I’m sure it’s easy to throw on and call it a day, should I beeswax, etc? want it to look natural, and there are many to choose from on the web and all, some are included in a makeup kit and such,, any experienced folks chime in please.
From what I’ve found out, most use the rubies wig with lots of product/styling to make it look right, I was going to try to buy a real hair wig, but then found out that they are not cheap, ugh. Luckily for me, there is a lady here where I work that where’s them all the time, (real hair wigs) and she is connected, so I will most likely find a RHW for around 30 bux! I would have to style/dye and product the thing to get what I need, but she is also hooking me up with all the goodies she uses that make the wig undetectable, and really, by looking at hers, you can never tell she’s wearing one. She is giving me some kind of cap to wear under the wig to keep it in place (kind of like a pantyhose thing) and other adhesive stuff…. should turn out pretty nice.
I’ve bought just about everything else except the coat/vest and shirt, which I’m getting soon, shoes are a tough one to find, I know the movie shoes were custom made, but I wish I knew what shoe they started with to be as close as I can, suspenders I found an exact match from some company in Britain, but they would run me around 50 bux!!! I settled for a close match for 12 bux,, they aren’t exact, but I’m not trying to be, although I did find a 1944 coin button, and the ill flower smily face button, 14 bux for both of those (ugh) Still looking for grenades,, Pants I got lucky and found a pair for about 4 bux, 10 bux after shipping, I have to die with RIT (24 hours purple and 30 min royal blue), socks I found and paid the 10 bux for, altogether this costume will be in the midst of about 350 -400 dollars when it’s said and done, my original idea for this year was to go cheap and make a Jason V hockey mask from a write up I found on here,,, would have been about 15 bux. I love Halloween.
